On 30.04.15 (Thu.) about forty PG teachers (mostly Physics & Chemistry Teachers but a few Biology and Economics teachers as well) from TIRUVALLUR (& PONNERI) districts had the good fortune to go to KALPAKKAM and visit the IGCAR (Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research).
We were given an intro by Mr. Kapali of the Training School, who also received us heart-warmingly. We were then taken around all the sections of STAGE II and thoroughly explained by Mr. MANJUNATH. We then went to RML (Radio Metallurgy Lab) and also to the KAMINI reactor. Finally we got a clear grasp of what is happening at ION ACCELERATOR LAB with wonderful explanations by Mr. SUNDARAVEL.
To be honest, it was a once-in-a lifetime opportunity for all of us and we got enriched by the knowledge we gained from IGCAR; also most impotantly, the visit gave us the faith on nuclear energy - in fact, the people at IGCAR feel that it is us, the teachers, who can be the ambassadors to project nuclear energy in good light among students and also motivate the students to join IGCAR or BARC one day.
The whole visit was meticulously planned and executed almost single-handedly by Mr. MURALI of DRBCC, Tiruvallur. Each one of us owe a great deal to him. Mr. Gnanasekaran gave the vote of thanks. Also special mention and thanks should go to Mr. Ramu who guided us from right from start to finish in our IGCAR visit.
